Apple Orchard Fun

Jayce is only 13 months old, but from the time he was born so many new things became important to me. I craved making memories. I desired forming newfound traditions. Because even if he couldn’t remember all of this, it was definitely important to me.

Anywho, my sister-in-law and I like to get together once a week to hang out. Sometimes we go somewhere that is fun for the kids, and other times we just hang out at her house or mine. This past week we went to a local apple orchard.

We stopped on it, bundled the littles up in warm clothes, and picked away.

Jayce clearly didn’t get the concept, but he was perfectly content sitting on the ground watching everyone else pick! I love having such a laid back little boy who joins me  in all of my adventures and is my sweet, little sidekick in day-to-day life.

We got 8 lbs. of apples (primarily concords). We only paid $8 for it! That’s a great deal for toxic free deliciousness. I hoped that Jayce would try an apple, but he still doesn’t eat any solid foods (maybe that’ll be my next blog).

After that, we went to spend the day shopping for Halloween items and just spending quality time with some of my favorite people!

(Sorry that this blog is so short.)

ONE year old

A year ago today at this time I was probably asleep on a hospital bed with my son right next to me. I would pick him up so gently and stare at him. I would nurse him when he cried. Earlier that day, that same little baby was placed on my chest. I kissed him and held him for the first time. That day changed me.

This  is one of the first pictures I’ve ever taken of him. I was so anxious to meet him and when my six pound peanut was FINALLY here I just couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe he was all mine.

Here are some pictures to reflect on:

This was the fastest year of my life. It was the best one too. Jayce has learned to roll, crawl, sit up, smile, laugh, wave, point, give high fives, blow kisses, stand, say “bye”, “hi”, “dada”, “mama”, and “love you”.

Words can’t express how proud he makes me. He has given me a reason not to be ashamed of having a baby as a teenager because I am just so proud to call him mine. I can’t even wrap my head around why God chose me to be the mother of someone so wonderful. His sweet, cautious, loving personality is the reason I push myself. It’s the reason I do good in school. It’s the reason I wake up every morning.

So Happy Birthday to my favorite little boy, the love of my life, my whole heart.

P.S. I will write about his birthday party as soon as I can too.

Isaac’s First Father’s Day

I suppose you read the title of this blog and had to do a double take. Like, wasn’t Father’s Day months ago? The answer is yes. The truth is that I really am months behind on my blogs. I feel bad that I’ve been slacking. I will slowly do my best to catch up.

Last year was technically Isaac’s first Father’s Day, in my opinion at least. But this year was his first year spending a Father’s Day with a sweet, interactive baby boy. I would say that his first Father’s Day was a success. He came to church with me in the morning, and afterwards we came back to my house for some lunch.

I decided to make Isaac a card from Jayce (and I). Isaac is a major Star Wars fan so I found Star Wars related ideas on Pintrest, and when I was in South Dakota I went to Hallmark and found this cute little thing. I taped in on a blank piece of paper, wrote “Daddy, YODA coolest” on the outside and wrote about how great a daddy he is on the inside.

Then I found this shirt on Etsy. I am obsessed with Etsy! 🙂 Anway, I wanted a shirt that pertained to being a father, but I also wanted it to be neutral for him to wear all the time. I thought this shirt met all of those requirements. Isaac wears it all the time!

Now that the card and shirt were Star Wars related, I knew that I couldn’t just get him something else that did not match the theme. So I knew that I wanted to incorporate a picture of Isaac and Jayce together with galaxy print paper too. I went to Hobby Lobby and Michael’s and couldn’t find any galaxy paper. I bought galaxy duct tape for a compromise. I then covered paper with the duct tape, wrote “You are the greatest FATHER in the galaxy” on it with a silver Sharpie. Underneath I put a cute picture of Jayce and Isaac.

Isaac’s first Father’s Day was definitely a success. Being able to ensure that Jayce and Isaac got to spend it together was absolutely amazing! I love my boys, and I love what a wonderful father Isaac is to my baby boy.

So happy WAY belated Father’s Day to all of you wonderful dads, single moms, dads in heaven, dad’s taking care of other people’s kids, and anyone else that deserves a thank you 🙂

Months 9, 10, and 11

My baby has been growing up. As anyone who has kids will tell you that the older they get, the more difficult it becomes. You have to chase them around. They don’t take as many naps, and do to this, I have been totally slacking on posting Jayce’s 9 and 10 month pictures. Now that he’s 11 months old, I think that adding them all together would be a good compromise to avoid the guilt of my busy, stressful lifestyle.

By 9 months old he was “officially” a crawler. Before that he was scooting around on his belly, but by 8.5 months, he had it all figured out. People tried to give me grief about how long it took him, but all babies work at their own pace.

He was not a fan of letting the “9 month” sticker on his belly, or next to him. As a result, it ended up going on his forehead. He is a smiley, momma’s boy and at 11 months that it still the same. He had two teeth on the bottom.

By 10 months my peanut was pulling himself up on furniture. He will grab at anything on any counter top that he could reach.

He still had his two bottom teeth, and his hair is getting blonder and blonder. It still has a little bit of a red tint to it.

And today marks 11 months. It is scary to think that in just a month he will be a year old. I’m planning his first birthday, and it seems like it’s coming up faster that I can take.

Jayce has beautiful blue eyes (like his daddy), and pretty blonde hair (like his daddy). It has a red tint to it, and is super curly in the back. We don’t really know where he gets that from.

He points. We encourage it now, but in a few years will be telling him that it’s rude (LOL!). He claps, gives high fives, gives kisses, and is the sweetest little boy I’ve ever met.

His hobbies including spending time with his family (especially his momma), doing whatever he is told not to, eating things off the ground, and nursing. He still refuses to eat “big people” food. Him being a long term nurser can only benefit him though.

He is getting big so fast. I love seeing his personality change. He is the light of my life, and I am beyond words proud to be this little boy’s mommy. I will forever do my best to show him how loved, capable, and smart he is.

Writer’s Block Randomness

Writing is my passion. I remember the excitement I felt in elementary school when the teacher said “You will have to write a paper…”. While everyone else cringed and rolled their eyes, my eyes were listening to every word the teacher said. I would ask questions to make sure that my paper was perfect. My paper was always done early because I enjoyed writing, and I didn’t want to stop.

That being said, I don’t always know what to write about. While writing is my passion, picking out topics to write about just isn’t. Therefore, I am writing about writers block, and I suppose this is where you will quit reading, and you will think that I have way too much time on my hands.

I really don’t though. I always have a way too long list of things to do, but I would much rather skip all of that to talk to you!

So maybe this is a waste of room on my blog. It’s probably a waste of your time, and it’s probably a waste of mine as well. That means we just may totally be lame enough to be friends (Just kidding, I’m sure you’re way too cool to be my friend).

I don’t really have friends, but I really like the show. I’m actually watching it right now. I LOVE having background noise on. Jayce is currently napping, which means YAY!

I can’t believe my baby is almost ONE. It’s scary actually. It feels like he was born yesterday. I still remember his smell. I remember kissing him while he cuddled up on my chest all covered in afterbirth.

My birth story is pretty interesting, but I suppose everybody says that. I wrote a blog about it once, but it’s been a while. I’ve learned so much about how to improve myself as a blogger, but at the same time there is still so much to learn. Maybe I will update it at some point or rewrite it altogether.

Summer. I feel like all winter long I long for summer. I remember craving wearing shorts. I remember being excited to put my peanut in shorts. I was excited that I wouldn’t worry about going in the ditch and freezing to death (I worry a lot).

Winter. Cute little jackets. Soft, white snow. Sledding, skiing, snowboarding. Cookies. Fireplaces. Snuggly babies.

Sick Babies Need Strong Mommies

Jayce had been feeling “off” for about a week now. He was coughing, had congestion, and didn’t want anything other than to be held by me. On Thursday night, I could just tell he was miserable, so I gave him some Tylenol, which I something I try to avoid. Right after that, he threw up all over himself and I.

I snuggled him throughout the night. He refused to nurse, which is rare for my major comfort nurser. When he still hadn’t eaten at all throughout the night, I tried to syringe breast milk into his mouth to avoid dehydration. After that, he threw up again.

So I called the hospital, and they advised me to take him into the E.R. After a stressful to watch chest X-Rays took place, blood was drawn, and he had finally eaten, I was told that Jayce has double bilateral pneumonia.

We sat at Walgreens Pharmacy for an hour waiting for our prescription to be filled, and Jayce snuggled into me and napped. The only reason I am mentioning this is because it is so unlike him to sleep on me, especially in public. I knew he was so freaking miserable, and it broke me.

The next night (Friday) was a looong one. He would only sleep in couple hour stretches and barely ate. I had to hold him upright against my chest and walk with him until he fell asleep. There was a point in the night where it was just way too hard for me to do this all on my own anymore, so my mom sat out in the living room with us and helped me. I am so thankful for her.

Saturday was an emotionally stressful day as well. Jayce and I spent all day next to each other, and he barely had any interest in playing with his toys.

Today, he is feeling much better. He is still on 5 mL of amoxicillin a day for the next week or so. I have been periodically giving him his inahler. I’ve been offering “nursies” a lot too, but he is still not as interested as usual. He has had much more of a desire to play.

This whole experience in and of itself has taught me so much. It has taught me the selflessness that motherhood requires. I can admit that during all of this I felt pretty desperate for sleep. I wanted to sit down, and a small part of me was even annoyed that Jayce refused letting me do that.

More than anything though, it taught me that “Sick Babies Need Strong Mommies”. The strength that this title mentions isn’t the physical strength required to get up off the couch with our cranky, sick babies. Okay, maybe it is a little. Mostly though, it’s the strength required to look at your sick baby. It really is a defeating feeling when you feel like you can’t do anything to make your baby feel better. It’s sad and scary.

It really does require strength to be the rock you need to be for your sick baby.

What She Really Means

So today I had a hair appointment. I was sick of my dull, brown hair (no offense to you stunning or handsome brunettes), but I just needed a change. Isaac came to my house to stay with Jayce (our son) while I went out and primped 😉

My hair looked AMAZING (my phenomenal hair stylist deserves all of the credit). When I walked in Jayce and Isaac were sitting on the couch together. They were watching Netflix, and Isaac was staring at the girl on the TV. Isaac didn’t even turn to look at me. I mean, you’d think that looking at his girlfriend who just spent way too much money on pretty blonde locks would attract more attention than the girl on the screen, but no.

He didn’t look. I jumped to conclusions, got mad, and stormed off to the bathroom. It ended up being a misunderstanding the whole time. He was busy looking at Jayce and didn’t think to look at my new hair while I was convinced he was more interested in another girl than me.

That’s when it hit me how different men and women really are which is why I thought a little educational humor for my male readers and just humor for my female readers would be completely appropriate.

i have nothing.gif

“I have nothing to wear” meaning she really has way too many clothes to choose from. It’s overwhelming having so many clothes without knowing what the right choice is.

“I’m not that hungry” meaning I’m starving, but I’m trying to be polite. If there isn’t food in front of me within the next five minutes I definitely won’t be this polite though.

go ahead

“Sure…go ahead” meaning “I don’t actually want you to go ahead and hang out with your friends, but I’m trying to tell myself that I’m not jealous”

“I’m not mad” meaning “I’m disappointed and hurt. Okay, maybe I am a little mad if a little meant like 9.99996 out of 10 mad”

“Do you think I’m pretty?” and “Do you think I’m ugly? meaning “Compliment me.”

“Whatever” meaning “I hope you choke on a meatball and get swallowed by a shark” or something along those lines 😉

on my way.gif

“I’m on my way” meaning “I haven’t even left yet.”

“I’m almost done in the bathroom” meaning “It’ll be like two hours”.

“Nothing” typically following “What’s wrong?” meaning “Something is totally wrong, but I want you to figure it out YOURSELF”

“I’m cold” meaning “I want to cuddle” or “I want you to give me your jacket.”

“Wow!” meaning “Oh my gosh, how is is even possible for someone to be as stupid as you are right being right now?”

Just A Sick Mom

Being a mom is hard. It’s stressful. There’s time that you want to run away and scream because your baby won’t stop crying. There’s days when you want to abandon everything you believe in because in that moment you have convinced yourself that you “just can’t do it”.

The worst is when you’re sick though. I’m struggling with mastitis…again. My head has been pounding for the past 3 days. I feel like I’m going to throw up. My boob hurts, and the only thing that I want to do is sleep. But I’m a mom.

That means I can’t sleep. That means I get to pretend I’m not sick. That means that when I hike myself to the hospital my baby is coming with me because I can’t find a sitter. That means that when Jayce naps if I choose to take a nap or relax, I’ll end up feeling guilty for not trying to tackling the mess of dirty clothes in my overflowing laundry basket. When my dad comes home for lunch, he will want me to make him lunch, and he’ll complain about the dishes that are not done.

Yeah, being a mom is hard. But never getting to take a break when I feel this crappy is harder.

Sorry That I’ve Been Busy

Hey, I’m awake, and I truly miss writing to you all. There are so many blogs that I’ve been brainstorming, not to mention that Jayce is 9.5 months old, and I still haven’t posted about him turning 9 months old.

I should go to bed, but I’m not tired. The motivated perfectionist in me is screaming “Jayce is asleep. Go be productive”. Blogging is a cross between productive and relaxing, so that’s what I’m choosing to do.

Things have been busy. I’ve been so stinkin’ broke, so any free time when I’m not doing school or taking care of Jayce, I’ve been doing whatever I can for my parents to earn some side cash. I cleaned 2 of the 3 of our bathrooms from head to toe. Then I went down to my dad’s shop and cleaning the bathroom there. I also went through papers on his desk and filed them. There were papers from 2013, so you get the point that my dad is not necessarily the most organized fella around.I can’t complain though. My dad’s lack of organization is aiding in the possibility of me purchasing a beautiful turquoise ring sling soon! *Fingers crossed*

Also, I want to learn how to crotchet. I went out and purchased some yarn and hooks. I’ve been browsing through YouTube getting some ideas. My sister-in-law is the one who really gave me the push to pursue. If she can make blankets, hats, and scarves with a 3 year old, 1 year old, and  baby on the way then I can fit the time into my busy schedule with just the one baby.

I’m hoping that soon I will take the time to go through and clean up old blogs. I might even play around with my theme and try to freshen up this blog! I just feel like I need to try something new and make a change, especially because lately I’ve been posting on “The Life of a Crunchy Mama” (feel free to check it out).

Anywho, I just wanted to give you an update on things. Hopefully I’ll find the time to blog more over the course of the next few weeks to make up for posts that I’ve been slacking on posting.
